JLL Ireland Employees Volunteer At FoodCloud As Part Of JLL’s Global Communities Week

Earlier this month, as part of JLL’s Global Communities week, JLL Ireland (CoolPartner 038) sent a team of employees to assist onsite at the FoodCloud hub.

FoodCloud is a non-profit social enterprise with a vision of a world where no good food goes to waste. It connects businesses that have surplus food with charities and community groups that need it. Its mission is to transform surplus food into opportunities to make the world a kinder place.

JLL Ireland is the Dublin-based operation of the world-leading Global brand JLL. They provide real estate services locally and across the globe to a range of different industries and sectors. JLL Global Communities Week is a chance for JLL employees around the world to give back to their communities.

Shockingly, more than one million tonnes of general food waste is created annually in Ireland alone, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Globally, one-third of the food produced for human consumption does not make it to our plates, according to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation. This food waste creates between 8% and 10% of the world's total human-induced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

FoodCloud is actively saving massive amounts of Food waste, which would eventually lead to Greenhouse Gas Emissions. They have redistributed over 140 Million Meals in Ireland & Internationally since 2013. By rescuing more than 58,900 tonnes of food from going to waste, over 188,000 tonnes of CO2-equivalent have been avoided.

This is incredible work that is actively reducing global emissions and playing its part in the fight against global warming. It’s also great to see CoolPartners like JLL take part in different kinds of climate action alongside their generous support of our mission at Cloudforests.
