Butterflies

The conservation and protection of butterflies is an important task for each and every one of us.

🦋 Little Ambassadors of Biodiversity

Butterflies are more than just beautiful; they’re signs of a healthy forest. Ireland is home to 33 species, from the bright Red Admiral to the rare Marsh Fritillary. Some, like the Painted Lady, even migrate thousands of kilometres to reach our shores!

Why they matter:

  • Help pollinate vibrant wildflowers

  • Indicate a healthy, thriving ecosystem

  • Provide essential food sources for birds and other wildlife

  • Inspiring folklore, art, and bringing joy to communities. In Irish tradition, butterflies are seen as symbols of the soul and transformation, a perfect reminder of the magic within our forests.
