CloudForest One: Delivering Verified Carbon Removal and Biodiversity in Ireland

A Major Milestone for Nature-Based Carbon Solutions

CloudForests is proud to share a significant milestone in the journey of CloudForest One, our flagship forest carbon project in County Clare.

Since planting was completed in December 2020, the forest has been steadily growing and establishing a healthy, resilient ecosystem. Today, we are entering the next phase—measuring and verifying its climate impact.

Our latest preliminary monitoring report confirms what we set out to achieve:
👉 strong forest growth, increasing carbon storage, and real environmental impact

From Forest Growth to Measured Carbon Impact

Like all high-integrity carbon projects, CloudForest One follows a structured lifecycle:

  • 2020–2025: Forest establishment and early growth

  • 2025 onwards: Formal monitoring, measurement, and carbon crediting

The first official monitoring period runs from:

👉 December 2025 to December 2031

During this period, the project is expected to deliver:

  • ~1,700 tonnes of CO₂ removed (tCO₂e)

  • ~20.9 tonnes of CO₂ per hectare per year

  • ~193 tonnes of CO₂ removed annually across the site

These figures represent measured and modelled carbon removals over the monitoring period, not a single-year figure—ensuring transparency and accuracy.

Built for Credibility: Verified Carbon Credits

Carbon credits from CloudForest One are not issued automatically.

They are:

  • Measured over time through structured monitoring

  • Subject to independent third-party verification

  • Issued only after validation and registry approval

  • Based on cumulative carbon removal, not assumptions

This ensures that every credit represents real, additional, and verifiable climate impact.

More Than Carbon: Building a Living Ecosystem

CloudForest One spans 9.64 hectares near Lahinch, Co. Clare, combining commercial forestry with ecological restoration:

  • Native species including oak, alder, birch, and rowan

  • Carefully managed Sitka spruce for long-term carbon capture

  • Dedicated biodiversity zones and natural habitats

  • Streams and aquatic ecosystems integrated into the site

This is not just tree planting—
it’s ecosystem design for long-term resilience and carbon storage.

Supporting Biodiversity and Local Nature

The project actively enhances biodiversity and supports wildlife:

  • 20,000 trees planted

  • Native Irish honeybee hives supporting pollinators

  • Wildlife foraging areas and hedgerow regeneration

  • Bird monitoring systems tracking ecological health

These co-benefits ensure that CloudForest One delivers positive environmental impact beyond carbon alone.

Aligned with Global Climate and Sustainability Goals

CloudForest One contributes to key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:

  • 🌍 Climate Action (SDG 13)

  • 🌳 Life on Land (SDG 15)

  • 🤝 Partnerships (SDG 17)

  • 🏥 Health and Well-being (SDG 3)

This alignment reflects a project designed for long-term sustainability and global relevance.

A Long-Term, Transparent Climate Solution

CloudForest One operates under a 30-year crediting framework, ensuring:

  • Long-term carbon sequestration

  • Ongoing monitoring and reporting

  • Continuous verification of impact

By separating forest growth from credit issuance, the project maintains a high standard of integrity—something increasingly important in today’s carbon markets.

A Local Irish Solution with Global Impact

Located in the west of Ireland, CloudForest One demonstrates how locally managed land can contribute to global climate solutions.

By combining:

  • Sustainable forestry

  • Carbon sequestration

  • Biodiversity enhancement

CloudForests is building a model for high-quality Irish carbon credits that organisations can trust.

What Happens Next?

As the forest continues to mature:

  • Carbon stocks will increase

  • Monitoring will continue across each crediting period

  • Verified carbon credits will be issued following independent assessment

This is just the beginning of a multi-decade climate and biodiversity project.
