Cloudforest One Enters Independent Carbon Verification

Another Major Milestone for Ireland's Native Woodland Carbon Projects

At Cloudforests, our mission has always been clear—to restore Ireland's native woodlands while creating lasting environmental value for biodiversity, local communities and future generations.

Today, we are delighted to announce another significant milestone.

Cloudforest One, our flagship native woodland in County Clare, has officially entered the independent carbon verification process through the Origin Xero Carbon Programme, moving one step closer to generating verified Irish carbon credits.

This represents a major achievement not only for Cloudforests but also for the development of Ireland's emerging voluntary carbon market.

What is Cloudforest One?

Cloudforest One is the first woodland developed and owned by Cloudforests as part of our long-term vision to restore native forests across Ireland.

Since the first trees were planted, the site has evolved into far more than a woodland.

It is becoming a thriving ecosystem where native wildlife is returning, biodiversity is increasing, soils are recovering and thousands of native trees are establishing themselves for generations to come.

Every CoolPartner and every Cloudforester has played a part in helping create this remarkable landscape.

Entering the Carbon Verification Process

The latest stakeholder update from Origin Xero confirms that projects within the current portfolio are progressing through independent third-party audit and validation before the first verified carbon credits are issued.

Cloudforest One is now progressing through this important stage.

Independent verification assesses every aspect of the project, including:

  • Carbon methodology compliance

  • Woodland management and governance

  • Monitoring and reporting systems

  • Supporting scientific evidence

  • Long-term environmental integrity

This rigorous process ensures that future carbon credits are credible, transparent and independently verified.

Why Verification is So Important

Carbon credits only have lasting value when buyers can trust the science behind them.

That is why Cloudforests chose to work with Origin Xero, whose programme has prioritised governance, independent auditing and scientific integrity ahead of speed.

Rather than rushing credits to market, the focus has been on building a trusted framework that can support Irish landowners, businesses and environmental projects for decades to come.

As businesses increasingly seek high-quality Irish carbon credits, independently verified native woodland projects like Cloudforest One are expected to become an increasingly valuable part of corporate climate strategies.

Helping Build Ireland's Carbon Market

Origin Xero has also announced that it is participating with national stakeholders—including the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), Teagasc and Climate KIC—in supporting implementation of the EU Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF).

This demonstrates the growing maturity of Ireland's voluntary carbon market and reinforces the importance of high-integrity, independently governed carbon projects.

Cloudforest One is proud to be among the projects helping establish this new market from the ground up.

Looking Ahead

The coming months will focus on completing the independent verification process and preparing projects for their first carbon credit issuance.

For Cloudforests, this is another important milestone in a much bigger journey.

While carbon verification is significant, it represents just one of the many benefits created by Cloudforest One. Every year our woodland delivers new habitat for wildlife, strengthens biodiversity, stores carbon naturally, improves the landscape and demonstrates how businesses and communities can work together to restore Ireland's natural environment.

We are incredibly grateful to every CoolPartner, every Cloudforester, every supporter and every organisation that has helped make Cloudforest One possible.

Together, we are not simply planting trees.

We are building Ireland's next generation of native woodlands—and helping shape the future of the Irish voluntary carbon market.
