Cloudforest One

Nearest Town - Lahinch, County Clare

With the support of our CoolPartners, Cloudforest One was planted with over 21,000 trees during the 2020/21 tree planting season.

This site also features our first Native Gift Tree Grove which is planted as a native woodland that includes Oak, Alder, Downy Birch, Rowan, Hazel, Wild Cherry, Guelder Rose, Crab Apple, Blackthorn, Hawthorn, and Yew.

The wider mixed forest includes Willows, Sitka Spruce, Scots Pine, and our very special Redwoods.

In November 2023, our CoolPartners came and planted over 1000 additional trees, including an orchard!

  • Varied habitats

Cloudforest One is planted as a mixed woodland.

There are several streams and aquatic zones which we work to protect and manage sensitively.

Our Wildlife and Pollinator Plan for Cloudforest One include developing foraging areas for our bees and other wildlife, and rejuvenating our hedgerow network.

In November ‘23, we planted an apple and plum orchard in the field that will become home to our first Robohive!

  • Conservation

Cloudforest One is home to our newly installed hives, managed by beekeeper extraordinaire Hergen, who handcrafts his own Layens-style and National-style hives.

Hergen is working hard to protect and increase the population of our native Irish honey bee.

Through our partnership with Hergen and the Native Irish Honey Bee Society (NIHBS), we can develop our Cloudforests to provide conservation areas which support their invaluable work.

In 2024, our first Robohive will be installed in the new orchard on Cloudforest One.

  • Eco Retreat

Cloudforest One will soon be home to our very first Eco Retreat.

We’re currently renovating the farm cottage on this site, and now the solar array is installed, this is our first off-grid eco house - perfect for our CoolPartners to use as a base for exploring this stunning location.

Our on-site charging point also mean that we can refuel our electric vehicles for the trip home in an even more sustainable way!

Videos and Live Streams

The forest creation started on-site in December 2020.

We are creating a twenty year timelapse - here is a small snippet of the mounding being done at the very start of forestry operations.
