Have you ever imagined owning a woodland in Ireland? Somewhere to walk with your family, watch the seasons change and see nature find its feet again.
Perhaps you run a business and want a place where your team can connect with the natural world while helping to restore it.
Cloudforests is evolving to help make that ambition a reality. Through our woodland ownership service, we help people and businesses source suitable land, navigate the necessary permissions and grant applications, and create their own native woodland.
Explore woodland ownership with Cloudforests.
Why own a native woodland?
Owning a woodland gives you a direct connection to a place and its future. You can help shape how that land is cared for, with a long-term ambition for trees, wildlife and habitats.
For a family, that might mean creating a woodland that grows alongside children and grandchildren. For a business, it could mean a lasting nature restoration project that employees can visit and follow over time.
The experience goes beyond planting day. There is something special about returning to see new growth, noticing birds in the branches and watching a young woodland develop.
How Cloudforests helps you create your own woodland
An idea can be simple. Finding the right land and understanding the steps involved can feel much more complicated. Our role is to help bring those pieces together.
1. Start with your ambition
We begin with what you want to achieve. Are you looking for a family woodland, a business-owned forest or a place where habitat restoration comes first?
Your preferred location, budget and level of involvement help shape the search.
2. Source suitable land
Choosing land is about more than finding a plot for sale. Its suitability for woodland creation, existing habitats, access and environmental constraints all need consideration.
We help source potential sites so that the opportunity can be assessed before you commit. The aim is to find land where your vision and the needs of nature can work together.
3. Navigate permissions and grant applications
Creating a woodland in Ireland involves an approval process. Under the Afforestation Scheme, applications must be made through a registered forester. Prior technical approval is required, with financial approval also needed before grant-aided work begins.
Cloudforests helps guide this stage, coordinating with the relevant forestry professionals to explore the permissions and funding options appropriate to the project.
Grant eligibility, payments and approval timelines depend on the land, applicant and scheme conditions. They should be assessed for each project before purchase or planting decisions are made.
4. Bring your native woodland to life
Once the necessary approvals are in place, the focus turns to establishing the woodland.
The plan should respond to the site: suitable native trees, protection of valuable existing habitats and the care needed to help young trees establish.
Our ambition is to create a beacon of biodiversity that develops over time.
What does woodland ownership cost?
There is no single price for creating a woodland in Ireland. The budget depends on the land purchase, professional and legal fees, assessments, access, planting, protection and ongoing care.
Eligible forestry support may contribute towards establishment and provide annual premiums, subject to the relevant scheme. A realistic budget should set out both the costs and any confirmed support, alongside the owner’s long-term responsibilities.
Can people own woodlands together?
Alongside individual woodland ownership, we are developing Druath as a collective route into woodland ownership.
Through Druath, participants would hold shares in the company that acquires and owns the woodlands, rather than individual title to a particular plot.
For those exploring a woodland of their own, Cloudforests offers a more direct route: help finding suitable land and creating a woodland around their ambitions.
