GMC and Cloudforest’s Kestrel Conservation in Clare
Here at Cloudforests.ie we’re excited to share the success of our latest project: Cloudforest One – the GMC Utilities Group Kestrel Conservation Project. Working closely with our incredible partners—GMC Utilities, Axis Communications, and Usee.ie—we’re combining cutting-edge tech with conservation to protect Ireland’s iconic kestrels and enrich biodiversity.
Tech Partnership: Axis & Usee.ie
At a blazing 26 °C, the Usee.ie team, powered by Axis Communications technology, installed a full system of live-streaming HD cameras, AI-driven bird recognition tools, and biodiversity sensors.
Axis Communications generously equipped the site with high-quality IP PTZ and bullet cameras, including protected fixtures for our kestrel nesting box.
Usee.ie handled the on-site installation, ensuring cameras were securely mounted in kestrel hotspots—areas they often use for perching or landing.
This state-of-the-art setup enables real-time live-streaming, bringing nature straight to our screens.
GMC Utilities Group: Our Proud CoolPartner
Special thanks to GMC Utilities Group and their Environmental & Sustainability Manager, Elaine Casey, for sponsoring this phase and touring Cloudforest One. Their tangible support helps us roll out these conservation innovations and bolster efforts to protect kestrels in the West of Ireland.
GMC’s commitment—from volunteer planting days to supporting our kestrel box—embodies the spirit of CoolPartnership. Their on-site presence, alongside ours, underscores the power of collaboration in nature conservation.
What This Means for Nature
This project is more than just monitoring, it creates a platform for:
Public engagement through live-streaming kestrel activity.
Research via AI bird identification and behavioural recording.
Community involvement, with GMC and Axis alongside our team cultivating appreciation for native wildlife.
It’s a practical conservation model that marries habitat restoration with guardianship and technology.
Looking Ahead
We’re already planning:
Live-stream launch to coincide with GMC’s visit, offering everyone a window into kestrel nesting activity, which you can view here.
AI-powered biodiversity insights, using our camera feeds to track kestrel interactions and other bird species in real time.
Next conservation steps, with GMC’s ongoing support and our continuing relationship with tech partners at Axis and Usee.ie.
Thank You!
