Cloudforest One: A Milestone in Measuring Our Woodland’s Impact

Six years ago, Cloudforest One was a field. Today, it is a growing mixed woodland—and on 15 October 2026, it reached another important milestone.

We welcomed third-party auditors on site alongside Origen Xero to validate their initial measurements. The visit went successfully, with everything checking out as expected.

For Cloudforests, this is a proud moment. It brings independent scrutiny to the work taking place on the ground and represents another step towards understanding and documenting the woodland’s environmental contribution.

From Planting Trees to Measuring Progress

Planting a woodland is the beginning of a long-term commitment.

As trees establish and grow, the work continues through stewardship, observation and measurement. At Cloudforest One in Lahinch, County Clare, we are watching that journey unfold as a former field develops into mixed woodland.

Alongside the visible changes comes an equally important question: how do we build reliable evidence of the forest’s progress?

Our work with Origen Xero is helping us answer that question. Today’s third-party audit visit focused on validating their initial measurements, adding an independent check to the process.

What Is MRV in Woodland Carbon Projects?

MRV stands for Measurement, Reporting and Verification. In woodland carbon projects, it describes the process of measuring relevant information, documenting the findings and having that evidence checked.

Each part matters:

  • Measurement gathers the data used to assess the woodland.

  • Reporting records the findings, methods and assumptions.

  • Verification brings independent scrutiny to the evidence and resulting claims.

For Cloudforests, the principle is straightforward: claims about environmental progress should be supported by evidence.

Today’s successful validation visit is a milestone within that wider process. Any final carbon figures, certification or credit issuance will depend on the completion of the applicable assessment and verification requirements.

Why Independent Validation Matters

A growing woodland is something people can see. Quantifying its carbon contribution requires a structured assessment.

Independent validation helps build confidence in the measurements underpinning that assessment. It also gives our supporters a clearer understanding of how we are working to document progress.

For our Cloudforesters, CoolPartners and wider community, this matters. You are supporting a living landscape with a future measured in decades. We want the information we share about that landscape to reflect the same care and commitment.

A Mixed Woodland with a Long-Term Future

Cloudforest One is a mixed woodland on Ireland’s west coast.

Its significance to us extends beyond any single carbon measurement. It is a place where we can observe trees developing, habitats changing and the woodland taking shape over time.

Carbon measurement is one part of that story. Biodiversity, stewardship and the connection people develop with the forest are also central to why we do this work.

Our ambition is to bring those elements together: growing woodlands, caring for them and building a clearer picture of their progress.

What This Means for Our CoolPartners and Cloudforesters

Every woodland milestone reflects the people and organisations who helped make it possible.

Our CoolPartners and Cloudforesters are part of the story behind Cloudforest One. Their support helps us continue the practical work of creating and caring for woodland.

Today’s visit is an opportunity to share that progress—and to show why measurement and independent scrutiny belong alongside planting and stewardship.

Participation in Cloudforests programmes should be described separately from any verified carbon credits. Supporting the woodland does not, by itself, establish an offset or carbon-neutrality claim.

What we can celebrate today is a successful validation visit and another meaningful step in documenting the forest’s development.

What Happens Next?

We will continue working with Origen Xero as the assessment progresses and share further findings when they are confirmed and ready to publish.

For now, we are pleased to report that the third-party auditors’ visit to validate the initial measurements went successfully.

Thank you to Origin Xero, the auditors and everyone supporting the Cloudforests journey.

Six years of growth brought us to this point. We look forward to sharing what comes next.
